Classic Exmoor!
The sun shone for us on an unusually crisp winter’s day as we walked the 12-mile route from Exford via Alderman’s Barrow to Lucott moor and back over Tarr Ball hill crossing Embercombe Water and Exford common, with views down to Nutscale reservoir. Conditions were so clear we could see down into North Devon and across the Bristol Channel to Wales, where snow capped mountains were visible in the far distance. The sea was as calm as a millpond, gleaming silver. And we had a lovely sighting of a group of about 20 red deer, who watched us with curiosity as we squelched across the moor.
